Diversifying Search Results Using Time

چکیده
For our evaluation setup we considered three categories of history-oriented queries: categories of history-oriented queries : long-lasting wars, recurring events, and famous personalities. For constructing the queries we utilized reliable sources on the Web and data presented in prior research articles [2, 3]. We describe the details next. Queries for long-lasting wars were constructed from the WikiWars corpus [3]. The corpus was created for the purpose of temporal information extraction. The keyword for the wars are given in Table 1a. For ambiguous important events we utilized the set of ambiguous queries used in the work by Gupta and Berberich [2]. The queries used are listed in Table 1b. For famous personalities we utilized a list of most influential people available on the USA Today [4] website. The names of these famous personalities were used based on the intuition that there would important events associated with them at different points of time. The list of all the entities is given in in Table 1c.

RDivF: Diversifying Keyword Search on RDF Graphs
In this paper, we outline our ongoing work on diversifying keyword search results on RDF data. Given a keyword query over an RDF graph, we define the problem of diversifying the search results and we present diversification criteria that take into consideration both the content and the structure of the results, as well as the underlying

A search query, being a very concise grounding of user intent, could potentially have many possible interpretations. Search engines hedge their bets by diversifying top results to cover multiple such possibilities so that the user is likely to be satisfied, whatever be her intended interpretation. Diversified Query Expansion is the problem of diversifying query expansion suggestions, so that th...
متن کاملGrOnto: A Granular Ontology for Diversifying Search Results
Results diversification is an approach used in literature to cover the possible interpretations of the results produced by query evaluation. For diversifying search results we propose the GrOnto model. This model is based on a normalized granular view of an ontology: GrOnto allows to associate each result with the suited topical granules in order to categorize it based on the granular information.
متن کاملDiversifying Search Results Using Time - An Information Retrieval Method for Historians
Getting an overview of a historic entity or event can be difficult in search results, especially if important dates concerning the entity or event are not known beforehand. For such information needs, users benefit if returned results covered diverse dates, thus giving an overview of what has happened throughout history. Such a method can be a building block for applications, for instance, in d...
متن کاملDiversifying for Multiple Information Needs
Several approaches have been proposed in recent years to diversify the search results for an ambiguous or underspecified query. In common, most of these approaches are driven by intrinsic characteristics of the search results, such as their content or their coverage of a particular taxonomic scheme. In this position paper, we argue that a true diversification should be driven by the perspective...
متن کاملAn Optimization Method for Proportionally Diversifying Search Results
The problem of diversifying search results has attracted much attention, since diverse results can provide non-redundant information and cover multiple query-related topics. However, existing approaches typically assign equal importance to each topic. In this paper, we propose a novel method for diversification: proportionally diversifying search results. Specifically, we study the problem of r...
